Scientific Research Context
What the published literature on Vilon examines. These are findings about the compound in the studies cited, not claims about the supplied material.
Lifespan and tumours in mice
Two reports from 2000 followed mice given Vilon. In female CBA mice dosed under the skin from the sixth month, the authors reported higher activity and endurance, lower body temperature, longer survival and fewer spontaneous neoplasms, and no adverse effect on development. [animal, mouse]
Induced bladder tumours in rats
In rats with chemically induced bladder tumours, tumour incidence was reported as 56% with Vilon against 75.5% in controls, and early changes in the bladder lining were reported as lower. Epitalon, tested in the same study, showed no such inhibition. [animal, rat]
Interleukin-2 expression in lymphocytes
In cultured mouse spleen lymphocytes, Lys-Glu stimulated expression of the interleukin-2 gene, with the size of the effect depending on concentration and exposure time. [in vitro, mouse cells]
Mouse heart microarray
On a 15,247-clone cDNA array, 300 clones changed more than twofold across the treatments compared: 36 with Vilon, 98 with Epitalon and 144 with the two together. [animal, mouse]
Human mesenchymal stem cells
In cultured human mesenchymal stem cells, KE was reported to raise SIRT1 expression and protein synthesis in younger cells and to lower PARP1 and PARP2 expression and protein synthesis in ageing cultures. Modelling suggested contact with promoter DNA sequences. [in vitro, human cells; in silico]
Peptide versus free amino acids
In organotypic rat spleen cultures, Lys-Glu stimulated proliferation while a mixture of free lysine and glutamic acid inhibited it. Docking suggested stronger DNA minor-groove contact for the dipeptide than for either amino acid. [ex vivo, in silico]
Overview
In short: Vilon (Lys-Glu, "KE") is a two-residue synthetic peptide from the Khavinson bioregulator family, examined in rodent studies, lymphocyte culture, microarray work and human stem-cell culture.
Key research facts
These points summarise lab themes, not human outcomes.
Only two amino acids make up KE: lysine, whose side chain carries a positive charge, and glutamic acid, whose side chain carries a negative one. Longer family members are built on the same pair. Testagen is Lys-Glu with Asp-Gly added, and Vesugen is Lys-Glu-Asp. Because the molecule is so small, one report compared Lys-Glu with a mixture of the free amino acids to ask whether the peptide bond itself matters.
The older papers are from 2000 to 2002 and are mostly mouse and rat work. Female CBA mice given the peptide from six months of age were followed for activity, body temperature, spontaneous tumours and survival. A rat study counted induced bladder tumours. Another measured digestive enzymes in young and older rats. A newer paper, published in 2023, moves to cultured human mesenchymal stem cells and measures gene and protein levels.
Almost all of it comes from one research network, and no controlled human trial is cited on this page. Vilon is supplied here as a lyophilised research powder for in-vitro and preclinical use. No analytical report for the supplied material has been published yet, so no purity figure is quoted.
Proposed Mechanism
Vilon is studied within the Khavinson model, in which very short peptides reach the cell nucleus and interact with DNA to change gene expression. For this dipeptide the support is expression measurements and docking, not a demonstrated pharmacology.
The proposed route runs from uptake into the cell, through nuclear entry, to binding at specific promoter sequences. For KE the cited evidence for each step differs. Expression changes are measured in mouse lymphocytes, mouse heart and human stem cells. DNA contact is shown by molecular docking rather than by a binding assay on chromatin. The whole-animal results, from tumour counts to survival, were obtained in rodents by the originating laboratory, and the abstracts give no group sizes for several of them. None of this has been independently replicated in the papers cited.
Common Questions People Are Asking
What is Vilon?
Vilon is the name used for the synthetic dipeptide Lys-Glu (KE) in publications from the Khavinson group. It is a research peptide with a preclinical record, supplied here as a lyophilised powder for laboratory use only.
Why is a two-residue peptide in the same family as the tetrapeptides?
The Khavinson programme grouped ultrashort peptides by their proposed ability to act on gene expression. Lys-Glu is the shortest of them and is the first two residues of both Lys-Glu-Asp (Vesugen) and Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly (Testagen).
What did the cited studies measure?
Mouse tumour occurrence and survival, rat bladder-tumour incidence and digestive-enzyme activity, interleukin-2 expression in lymphocyte culture, a mouse heart microarray, and SIRT1, PARP1 and PARP2 expression in human stem-cell culture. Each is described on this page as reported by its authors, and all of it is preclinical.
Is there a Certificate of Analysis for Vilon?
Not yet. No analytical report has been published for this material, so no purity figure is quoted.
Is there human data on Vilon?
The only human material in the cited literature is cultured mesenchymal stem cells; no study in people is cited. Vilon is sold strictly for in-vitro and preclinical research, not for human or veterinary use.

Overall: Tier 3: Limited / anecdotal
Vilon has a preclinical record that spans mice, rats, rodent lymphocytes and a recent human stem-cell culture, mostly from one St. Petersburg network. Several abstracts give no group sizes. No controlled human trial and no independent replication appear in the cited literature. It is supplied as unapproved laboratory material.

About Vilon (Lys-Glu, KE): Short-Peptide Bioregulator Research Guide
Vilon is the name the Khavinson group gave to the dipeptide L-Lys-L-Glu. Papers also write it as "vilon" or simply Lys-Glu or KE. As the smallest sequence in the programme, it is often used as a reference point: other family peptides are described as extensions of it, and the 2002 microarray and 2001 bladder-tumour papers set it beside Epitalon.
Its published history divides into two periods. The first, around 2000 to 2002, is whole-animal and cell-culture work from the Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology and collaborators. The second is a 2015 paper on the role of the peptide bond and a 2023 paper on human mesenchymal stem cells, both aimed at how a dipeptide could act on DNA and gene expression.
New-U Research Compounds supplies Vilon as a lyophilised research powder, as a sealed 10-vial pack of 20 mg vials or as one sample vial. No analytical report for the supplied material has been published yet, and this page makes no purity or certificate claim. It is for in-vitro and preclinical research only, is not a medicine, and nothing here is medical advice.
