    What is DSIP used for in research?

    DSIP is studied as a research tool in sleep architecture, stress-axis (HPA) regulation and neuroendocrine signalling. Published work spans delta-wave EEG effects, corticotropin and somatotropin release, opioid-withdrawal and chronic-pain models, and antioxidant activity — almost all in animal or cell-culture systems.     Why is it called "Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide"?

    The name comes from its 1977 isolation: Schoenenberger and Monnier held rabbits in electrically induced delta-wave (deep, slow-wave) sleep and isolated a nine-residue peptide from their cerebral venous blood. Transferred to other animals, the fraction appeared to promote the same slow-wave pattern. The name records that founding observation rather than a proven mechanism.

    How is DSIP proposed to work?

    That remains genuinely unresolved. No dedicated DSIP receptor has ever been cloned, so the peptide is studied as a diffuse neuromodulator rather than a classical receptor agonist. Its documented effects on sleep EEG, the HPA axis and pituitary hormone release are best described as observed associations in animal models. One open puzzle is that its reported plasma half-life is only minutes while observed effects span far longer windows.

    What is Emideltide, and did the FDA approve DSIP?

    Emideltide is the designation used for DSIP in regulatory and compounding contexts. In July 2026 it was among the peptides reviewed by the FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee for potential 503A Bulks List inclusion. That is a compounding-eligibility review — not a marketing approval, not a safety determination and not a clinical endorsement. DSIP remains an unapproved research compound.

    How should DSIP be stored?

    Keep the lyophilised powder frozen at −20 °C. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water or sterile saline, refrigerate at 1–6 °C and protect from light. As a small hydrophilic nonapeptide it tolerates standard peptide-handling conditions well within the normal usage window.
