For research discussion only. Not medical advice. Not for human consumption.

Why the RUO framing genuinely protects this community

Saw a newcomer ask why we're "so strict" about the research-use-only line. Worth saying plainly: it isn't gatekeeping. Keeping the discussion to handling, testing, storage, and literature is what keeps the forum useful and keeps it open at all.

The moment a thread drifts into personal-use territory it stops being a research discussion and becomes something none of us are qualified to weigh in on. Different lane, different professionals. Here we talk benches and COAs.

Agree, and I'd put it more bluntly: the RUO lane is the only lane where any of us are actually competent. Step outside it and we're just strangers guessing. Stay in the lane, keep the forum good.

Well put. It's also why the threads here are genuinely better than most places — constraints breed quality. Nobody's wading through human-use noise to find the chromatography talk.
